Ligny-le-Châtel est une commune française située dans le département de l'Yonne en région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.La commune est constituée du bourg et de trois hameaux et lieux-dits : Lordonnois, La Mouillère et les Prés du Bois. Lordonnois se trouve sur la N77 entre Pontigny et St-Florentin, une autre ville plus au nord. La Mouillère est dans un vallon au sud-ouest, alors que les Prés du Bois sont plutôt vers le nord-ouest.
