Javols est une ancienne commune française, située dans le département de la Lozère en région Occitanie. Elle fait actuellement partie de la nouvelle commune de Peyre-en-Aubrac créée en 2017. Javols s'est appelée autrefois Anderitum , du gaulois ande-, particule intensive, et rito . C'était la capitale de la tribu gauloise des Gabales. Ils ont donné leur nom à Javols et à son pays, le Gévaudan . Le nom d'Anderitum signifie « le grand gué ».
