Briey est depuis 1er janvier 2017 une commune déléguée de Val de Briey et une ancienne commune française située dans le département de Meurthe-et-Moselle, en Lorraine, dans la région administrative Grand-Est.Ancien siège d'un comté appartenant à la famille de Briey , Briey a donné son nom au bassin ferrifère le plus puissant d'Europe au début du XXe siècle : le Bassin de Briey .
