Ses habitants sont appelés les Grandésinois ou plus couramment Grandésiniens, par référence à l'ancien nom de Grand, la ville gallo-romaine d'Andesina, très grande cité inscrite sur la carte de Peutinger, lieu d'importantes fouilles archéologiques sur le site archéologique de Grand.La commune se situe à 22 km à l'ouest de Neufchâteau, aux confins du département des Vosges, à la limite du département de la Haute-Marne et de la Meuse.
