Godewaersvelde est une commune française située dans le département du Nord, en région Hauts-de-France.
De Godafrithas feldu, pays rude, sauvage, lande de Godefried, champs de Godewaer , nommée Gotsvelde ou Gode dans le langage parlé,. Les soldats anglais la nommaient God lors de la première guerre mondiale. Une version populaire qui prétend que Godewaersvelde signifierait Dieu bénisse nos champs semble sans fondement, écartée par les linguistes et les historiens.
