Le nom de Brangeard vient d’un vieux verbe de parlanjhe « branger », signifiant labourer un champ après la moisson et le laisser inculte pendant l’hiver.
C’est le lavoir le plus important de la commune et le seul couvert. Restauré très récemment par la municipalité, il date du XIXe siècle. Rectangulaire, il est alimenté par une source protégée par un petit abri en pierre à l’extérieur du bâtiment. Mais il est aussi alimenté par l’eau de pluie grâce à son toit à impluvium. La toiture permettait ainsi de diriger les eaux de pluie dans le bassin central tout en protégeant les lavandières.
