Walbach est situé dans le Val St Grégoire à 12 km de Colmar.
On trouve le nom de Walbach pour la 1ère fois en l'an 1100 puis en 1222 comme étant dépendant de Wihr au Val.
Situé au piémont des Vosges, les collines qui dominent le village donnent des vues panoramiques sur toute la vallée de Munster et le Hohlandbourg.
