Saronno est une ville italienne de l'agglomération milanaise d'environ 38 500 habitants, située dans la province de Varèse, en Lombardie, dans le Nord-Ouest de l'Italie.
La route, via Mediolanum-Bilitio, passait par Solomnum, le nom romain de Saronno, qui reliait Mediolanum à Luganum en passant par Varisium . La plus ancienne preuve documentaire de l'existence de Saronno est une charte notariale de 796, concernant un gage de prêt contracté par un certain Johannes de Vico Salomno .
