Villabassa est une commune italienne d'environ 1 600 habitants située dans la province autonome de Bolzano dans la région du Trentin-Haut-Adige dans le nord-est de l'Italie.
Léon Blum y a été transféré avec sa femme après son séjour à Buchenwald. Il a été libéré en mai 1945 par les Américains. Léon Blum et sa femme n'étaient pas seuls. Dans un convoi mené par 2 sous-officiers SS qui aboutira à Villa Bassa se trouvaient aussi l'ex-chancelier autrichien Kurt Schuschnigg, le pasteur Martin Niemöller, deux parachutistes anglais, des membres de la famille de Claus von Stauffenberg, et de la famille de Goedeler, l'évêque Neuhaüsler, Fabian von Schlabrendorff, le colonel Bogislaw von Bonin, Alexander von Falkenhausen, etc. Ils étaient en tout 139 "otages de marque", de 16 nationalités différentes, d'autres sources disent 12, destinés à d'ultimes négociations puisque nous étions le 29 avril, veille du suicide d'Hitler.
