Cette colonne est située sur la Via Roma à Sienne. Au-dessus se trouve une copie parfaite de la louve du XVe siècle, dont l'original se trouve au musée Contrada.
La colonne du Ponte di Romana a une histoire particulière. Un document nous apprend qu'il servait à apposer un drapeau avec l'image d'un cheval annonçant la foire aux chevaux de la région.
Partout à Sienne, vous trouverez la louve en lactation. L'histoire raconte que Sienne a été fondée par les fils de Remus. Nous connaissons tous Remus depuis l'histoire de la fondation de Rome. Il aurait été élevé par une louve avec son frère Romulus.
