Le village est situé au milieu des forêts, sur le flanc ouest de la Veluwe et joue un rôle touristique important. Juste au sud de Kootwijk se trouve le unique Kootwijkerzand, d'un point de vue paysager. À environ cinq kilomètres à l'est, dans la commune d'Apeldoorn, se trouve le lieu Radio Kootwijk.
