Derrière un magnifique portail en fer forgé se trouve le cimetière "Ter Navolging", le premier cimetière non juif aux Pays-Bas qui a été établi en dehors des zones urbanisées. Une résistance est apparue, notamment pour des raisons d'hygiène, à l'inhumation des morts dans et autour des églises. C'est pourquoi A. Perrenot (1726-1784), un Suisse rattaché à la cour des stathouders Willem IV et Willem V, qui a obtenue son doctorat en 1748 avec le mémoire "Sur l'interdiction d'enterrer dans la ville et dans les églises", a décidé d'aménager un cimetière dans les dunes près de Scheveningen. Il a nommé le cimetière "Ter Navolging", dans l'espoir que cet exemple serait suivi. La première inhumation a eu lieu ici le 11 mai 1780.
