Ce ruisseau est alimenté par des eaux de source autour de Woudenberg et par des ruisseaux provenant des pentes de la vallée de Gueldre. Le ruisseau mesure environ 8 km de long et coule de Woudenberg à Amersfoort, où il atteint la ville au niveau de la porte de l'eau Monnikendam. Amersfoort a été fondée à l'endroit où de nombreux ruisseaux se rejoignent et s'écoulent sous le nom de rivière De Eem vers la mer du Sud. Le ruisseau Heiligenberger y contribue de manière significative. Le ruisseau tire son nom du domaine de Heiligenberg situé entre Leusden et Amersfoort.
