Odoorn est une localité de la commune de Borger-Odoorn, dans la province de Drenthe. Odoorn comptait 1.890 habitants au 1er janvier 2021. Selon Van Berkel et Samplonius, le nom Odoorn est dérivé via Oreng ou Oeringe et Odering du nom personnel Odheri. Le plus ancien document dans lequel le nom Odoorn apparaît est une lettre scellée du 2 juillet 1327 du monastère Ten Nije Lichte. Dans une lettre de 1376, le nom Odoorn apparaît à nouveau. Le nom y est écrit Oderen. Dans un manuscrit de 1548, le nom apparaît encore sous la forme : "le pasteur d'Oderen". Dans un manuscrit de 1393, le nom est Odern, dans un autre de 1431 Oederen et dans un de 1546 nous trouvons : le bourg d'Oideren.
