Beni signifie "l'endroit où deux rivières se rencontrent" et est en fait situé au confluent de la rivière Kali Gandaki et de la rivière Myagdi.
C'était une ville importante sur la route commerciale Tibet-Népal.
Il est devenu une attraction touristique majeure et un lieu d'hébergement sur le circuit des Annapurna.
Beni est également considérée comme la porte d'entrée du district vers le Mustang.
