Le centre d'extermination de Chełmno est le premier centre d'extermination nazi destiné à l'assassinat de Juifs au moyen de gaz asphyxiants.Situé dans le village polonais de Chełmno nad Nerem à 60 kilomètres au nord-ouest de Łódź dans le Warthegau, partie de la Pologne annexée au Reich, il est utilisé de décembre 1941 à septembre 1942, puis en juin et juillet 1944, faisant plus de 150 000 victimes, essentiellement des Juifs originaires du Warthegau. Caractérisée par l'emploi de camions à gaz, sa première phase d'activité est dans la continuité des meurtres commis dans le cadre du programme Aktion T4 ou par les Einsatzgruppen et constitue une étape vers la mise en place des grands centres d'extermination, comme Sobibór, Treblinka, Maidanek, Bełżec et Auschwitz. « Plus qu'un « laboratoire », Chełmno fut une « école » formant le personnel des autres centres de mise à mort ».
