Le California Institute of Technology , en abrégé Caltech ou plus rarement CIT, est une université privée américaine créée en 1891. Elle se situe à Pasadena, dans la banlieue de Los Angeles, en Californie. Elle compte près de 500 professeurs et chercheurs et de 2 700 étudiants dans un campus qui accueille aussi le Jet Propulsion Laboratory de la NASA où travaillent 5 200 personnes.
Elle a contribué à former plus de trente futurs prix Nobel ainsi que cinq prix Crafoord et de nombreuses personnalités distinguées par des prix américains dans les domaines de la science, de la technologie et de l’ingénierie.
