À l'époque préhispanique, des zones telles que Barranco del Infierno et Barranco del Rey étaient habitées à Adeje, en raison de la nécessité pour les Guanches d'établir leurs colonies près des canaux des ravins, à la recherche de grottes et d'eau pour survivre.
Après la conquête, la population de Tenerife s'est installée à l'intérieur des terres et a occupé la bande située entre 400 et 700 mètres d'altitude, où les conditions de vie et les terres agricoles étaient meilleures . Ils ont également créé des jardins en terrasses sur des pentes abruptes afin de pouvoir les utiliser pour l'agriculture.
Plus tard, la construction d'un canal a commencé pour amener l'eau du Barranco del Infierno vers les parties inférieures.
