Il Hochkönig, con un'altezza di 2941 m sul livello del mare, è la vetta più alta del gruppo montuoso delle Alpi di Berchtesgaden. La cima principale, anch'essa chiamata Hochkönig, sovrasta tutte le montagne in un raggio di circa 34 chilometri. Con un dislivello di 2181 m, il Hochkönig appartiene ai monti geograficamente più prominenti delle Alpi, superato solo dal Mont Blanc, Großglockner, Finsteraarhorn, Wildspitze e Piz Bernina.
