La Porta di Menen può essere considerata il simbolo generale della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Il monumento è un progetto di Sir Reginald Blomfield. Ha progettato questo monumento come un classico arco trionfale. Ma la Porta di Menen è anche un 'memoriale ai dispersi'. All'interno sono incisi i nomi di circa 55.000 soldati del Commonwealth, che sono stati dichiarati dispersi prima del 15 agosto 1917.
