Prima della chiusura del cantiere navale, Baasrode era conosciuta come un villaggio di costruttori navali. Attualmente, si può conoscere il passato della navigazione interna presso il museo marittimo, dove numerosi modelli di navi, incisioni e altri reperti illustrano il passato della navigazione interna.
Inoltre, Baasrode si trova lungo la linea turistica della ferrovia a vapore Dendermonde-Puurs. A questa linea appartiene la stazione Baasrode-Noord, il "quartier generale" della associazione senza scopo di lucro SDP (Stoomtrein Dendermonde Puurs), che gestisce la linea.
