Il castello di Vêves, situato lungo un piccolo affluente della Lesse, si trova a pochi chilometri dal villaggio di Celles, ora integrato nel comune di Houyet, nella provincia di Namur.
Le origini di questo castello sono antiche. Infatti, Pipino di Herstal vi aveva già costruito una villa nella seconda metà del VII secolo per essere più vicino all'eremo di San Hadelin a Celles. La villa fu poi trasformata in una piccola fortezza dai suoi vari successori nel IX secolo. Questa fortezza fu demolita nel 1200 e ricostruita nel 1220 dalla famiglia Beaufort che la rese un castello più potente.
