Il porto di ancoraggio si trova nei Rijks administratie dell'Alta Kempen nella provincia del Limburgo e fa parte del paesaggio tradizionale "area di brughiera e foresta del Limburgo". L'area si trova a ovest del Zuid-Willemsvaart e dei comuni di Opgrimbie, Rekem e Neerharen ed è perlopiù attraversata dal bordo ripido del Plateau di Kempen. Nel porto di ancoraggio dominano grandi complessi forestali contigui e zone più piccole di brughiera (umida) che fanno parte del parco paesaggistico del Parco Nazionale dell'Alta Kempen. Da ovest a est scorrono l'Heiwijkbeek, lo Ziepbeek e l'Asbeek che attraversano il porto di ancoraggio. Inoltre, il porto di ancoraggio include anche il castello storico e il dominio di Pietersheim. Il confine si estende sui territori comunali di Maasmechelen e Lanaken.
