La prima scuola HSO fu fondata da Camille A. Bise e aperta nella primavera del 1954 nel quartiere zurighese di Oerlikon come Oerlikon Business School. Il primo corso ha introdotto i potenziali commercianti alla dattilografia.
Nel 1959, divenne una scuola di trading diurno con un programma di insegnamento commerciale completo. In Svizzera, "KV" è sinonimo di temi commerciali e formazione. Successivamente è stato trasformato nel centro educativo "HSO Handels- und Kaderschule Oerlikon Zürich". Nel 2004, 10 anni dopo che l'attuale vicepresidente del Consiglio di amministrazione Beat Nägelin ha assunto la direzione dell'HSO, l'HSO ha avuto 1.500 studenti in vari corsi di formazione, tra cui comunicazione, informatica, scuola commerciale, KV College e formazione manageriale. Nel 2007, l'HSO ha iniziato a espandersi in tutta la Svizzera e ora si chiama "HSO Business and Computer Science School". Ci sono centri educativi ad Aarau, Baar, Basilea, Berna, Coira, Lucerna, Rapperswil, San Gallo, Soletta, Thun e Zurigo.
