Il Gendarmenmarkt è una famosa piazza del centro di Berlino, sulla quale si affacciano le chiese gemelle del Deutscher Dom e Französischer Dom, nonché il Konzerthaus. La piazza, che ospita anche la statua di Schiller, è considerata una delle più belle di Berlino per l'armonia dei suoi monumenti.
Nel corso dei secoli l'attuale piazza fu nota con varie denominazioni: inizialmente Lindenmarkt , poi Mittelmarkt o Friedrichstädter Markt fino al 1786, per poi diventare Neuer Markt . Il nome attuale risale al 1799 e deriva dalla presenza delle stalle del reggimento dei corazzieri della Gens d'armes, che il re Federico Guglielmo I di Prussia aveva fatto erigere qui nel 1736.
