Moormerland è un comune unificato costituito da originariamente dieci villaggi indipendenti nel distretto di Leer in Ostfriesland. È un comune rurale relativamente densamente popolato sia nel confronto interno all'Ostfriesland che in quello della Bassa Sassonia, con la densità massima nel sud-est del suo territorio, vicino alla città del distretto di Leer. Moormerland ha 23.987 abitanti ed è il secondo comune più grande del distretto dopo la città capoluogo e il quinto comune più grande dell'Ostfriesland dopo Emden, Aurich, Leer e Norden, superando le città di Wittmund, Weener e Wiesmoor. La sede dell'amministrazione comunale è a Warsingsfehn.
