Stuhr è un comune autonomo nel nord del distretto di Diepholz e con circa 33.000 abitanti è la più grande comunità del distretto e il secondo comune della Germania senza diritti di città. Si confina a sud con la città di Brema. Il comune di Stuhr è un centro di media importanza.
Stuhr si trova a sud-ovest di Brema. Altre comunità vicine sono a nord-ovest la città di Delmenhorst, a sud-ovest il comune aggregato di Harpstedt, a sud i comuni di Bassum e Syke e a sud-est il comune di Weyhe. Stuhr è la comunità con il maggior numero di abitanti e la più forte economicamente del distretto di Diepholz e, dopo Delmenhorst, una delle più grandi comunità limitrofe a Brema. Le elevazioni in alcune frazioni fanno parte della Geest.
