Una vecchia designazione del luogo è circa 1025 Estorp. In documenti antichi il nome del luogo è identico a Estorf: 1217 Estorpe. La forma base è "Ages-thorp" e significa "villaggio di un 'Agi'", riferendosi a "Egge, Ecke" per "bordo, affilatura della spada".
