Il Lago Bergheider, situato a sud di Finsterwalde presso Lichterfeld, nel distretto di Elbe-Elster, è un bacino allagato risultante dalla precedente miniera a cielo aperto di Klettwitz-Nord, situata a nord-est del paesaggio di brughiera della Bassa Lusazia. Il lago è stato chiamato così in onore dell'ex località di Bergheide, che ha dovuto cedere il posto all'estrazione di lignite dalla miniera di Klettwitz-Nord.
L'allagamento del bacino, sotto la responsabilità della LMBV, è iniziato il 1 settembre 2001 e si è concluso il 19 maggio 2014. Il lago fa parte della regione dei laghi della Lusazia, ma è isolato a causa della distanza di 20 chilometri dalle vie d'acqua collegate della catena lacustre della Lusazia. Il Lago Bergheider ha una superficie d'acqua di circa 320 ettari. Il nuovo scarico avviene attraverso il bacino del lago nel Heidesee. Lungo la riva di Lichterfeld c'è la possibilità di fare il bagno. Le altre aree di riva sono riservate alla protezione della natura. Lì ci sono zone di divieto della LMBV.
