Il cimitero principale di Limburg an der Lahn, risalente al 1882, è protetto come monumento storico nell'insieme della Nuova Area Cimiteriale.
Dopo che il cimitero del duomo era diventato troppo piccolo, nel 1882 è stato creato il Nuovo Cimitero. La nuova area è stata realizzata su un terreno rettangolare nella Unterheide al Schafsberg, al di fuori della città. Il cimitero è stato circondato da una recinzione in ferro battuto. Questa è stata rimossa durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Sono rimunti solamente i cancelli del portale principale. Nel 1965/66 e nel 1985 sono state effettuate delle estensioni del cimitero.
