Strahwalde, situata nel Vorland dell'Oberlausitzer Bergland, si trova nella parte centrale della contea, circa otto chilometri a sud-est di Löbau e diciotto chilometri a nord-ovest di Zittau.
Il villaggio di Strahwalde è stato menzionato per la prima volta nel 1317 come Strabenwalt, quando il marchese Woldemar di Brandeburgo assegnò otto villaggi alla giurisdizione della città di Löbau. Nel 1390 è stato registrato un insediamento nobiliare, che nel 1573 è stato definito feudo e rimase di proprietà della famiglia von Klüx fino al 1645. Il feudo è stato diviso in Nieder- e Oberstrahwalde. Il feudo di Niederstrahwalde è passato a Caspar von Bock. Dal 1657 al 1721, Niederstrahwalde appartenne alla famiglia von Rabenau.
