Con l'assedio di Dorsten si fa riferimento a un conflitto militare durante la Guerra dei Trent'anni. Le parti in conflitto erano le truppe della Landgraviato di Assia-Kassel e le truppe imperiali sotto Melchior von Hatzfeldt; lo scontro ebbe luogo dal 16 luglio al 19 settembre 1641.
Dopo una decisione della Corte di Vienna, l'Assia-Kassel dovette cedere l'Assia superiore con l'università di Marburgo all'Assia-Darmstadt. Per questa significativa perdita, il re Gustavo Adolfo di Svezia promise nel trattato di Werben del 22 agosto 1631 al Landgraviato di Assia-Kassel e ad altre regioni del principato ecclesiastico di Münster e del Vest Recklinghausen elettorale in caso di vittoria nella Guerra dei Trent'anni.
