Oberrad si trova a circa 3 km a sud-est della Hauptwache, sulla sponda sud del Meno. Storicamente, si tratta di un insediamento rurale chiuso con un tracciato regolare e una chiesa in posizione centrale. L'espansione moderna dell'insediamento è orientata verso sud.
A nord, il territorio di Oberrad è delimitato dal Meno; sulla sponda opposta si trova il porto orientale di Francoforte nel quartiere di Ostend, a nord-est confina con il quartiere di Kaiserlei a Offenbach, a ovest con Sachsenhausen e a sud con la foresta cittadina di Francoforte, qui chiamata Scheerwald.
