Gerona è una città della Spagna di 101 852 abitanti, situata in Catalogna, capoluogo della provincia omonima.
Profondamente legata alle proprie tradizioni, difese nel susseguirsi delle numerose culture imposte durante le dominazioni che la città ha subìto nel corso dei secoli, dovute soprattutto alla sua posizione geografica, Gerona è l'ultima provincia della Catalogna prima del confine con la Francia: ciò ha creato nell'arco della sua storia una situazione di resistenza continua, da parte dei suoi abitanti, nei confronti della morsa prodotta dalla cultura francese da un lato e da quella castigliana dall'altro. Tutto ciò ha fatto sì che questo luogo si trasformasse in una sorta di "zoccolo duro" della cultura catalana.
