Klaksvík è la seconda città più grande delle Isole Fær Øer. La città sorge su Borðoy, nella regione delle Norðoyar, costituita dalle isole più settentrionali dell'arcipelago. È uno dei luoghi più importanti per la pesca e per l'industria del pesce a livello nazionale. Non a caso, ha un importante porto con una moderna flotta peschereccia.
Il comune di Klaksvík, il più grande della regione di Norðoyar, si estende sulle isole di Borðoy, Kalsoy e Svínoy, quest'ultima annessa al comune il 1º gennaio 2009. Il 1º gennaio 2017 è stato annesso anche l'ex comune di Húsar.
