In Rocamadour puoi vedere il presunto frammento di Durandal, la spada del paladino di Carlo Magno, Roland, nel ciclo letterario noto come la Questione di Francia. Secondo l'Orlando Furioso di Ludovico Ariosto, un tempo apparteneva a Ettore di Troia ed è stato dato a Roland da Malagigi (Maugris). Il nome deriva probabilmente dal verbo francese "durer", "durare". Nella Canzone di Roland si dice che la spada nel suo impugnatura d'oro contenga un dente di San Pietro, sangue di San Basilio, capelli di San Dionigi e un pezzo dei vestiti della Santa Vergine Maria.
