Importante centro della cristianità nell'Occidente medievale, la Cattedrale di Notre-Dame de Chartres è un eccezionale esempio di arte religiosa del XII e XIII secolo. I suoi nove portali scolpiti e le 176 vetrate straordinariamente ben conservate costituiscono un corpus di immagini unico al mondo, che riflette il pensiero spirituale e l'espressione artistica di quel periodo. Inserita nella lista dei Patrimoni dell'Umanità nel 1979, la Cattedrale di Chartres è un ottimo esempio di architettura gotica in Francia e in Europa.
