Il Lago Luitel si trova nel comune di Séchilienne nel dipartimento dell'Isère a un'altitudine di 1.260 m, sotto la stazione sciistica di Chamrousse e sopra Uriage-les-Bains. Occupa una depressione creata in passato dal ghiacciaio Romanche, il precedente ghiacciaio di Belledonne che si univa a quello della valle dell'Isère.
