Il villaggio di Le Bugue è situato nella valle della Vézère, in Dordogna, nel cuore del Périgord Noir e di Lascaux, molto vicino al villaggio di Limeuil, classificato come uno dei più bei villaggi di Francia. È situato in un anfiteatro, sul pendio di una ricca collina.
Questa città, occupata fin dall'antichità, è rimasta fedele alla sua storia e alle sue tradizioni, e si sviluppa in un anfiteatro. Oggi Le Bugue conserva poche vestigia del suo passato, anche se alcune vecchie case sono visibili nelle strade.
L'evento più importante nella storia di Le Bugue è stata la decisione di fissare il martedì come giorno di mercato. Una decisione presa 6 secoli e mezzo fa! E non è una leggenda! Fu Filippo il Bello, re di Francia, a decidere questo giorno. La decisione entrò in vigore nel 1319, consacrando Le Bugue come città a sé stante, liberandosi gradualmente dalla tutela di Limeuil.
