Exmouth è una città portuale, una parrocchia civile e una località balneare, situata sulla riva est della foce del fiume Exe e a 11 miglia a sud-est di Exeter.
Monete bizantine con il segno di Anastasio I, risalenti a circa il 498-518, sono state recuperate dalla spiaggia nel 1970. Un'occupazione umana più recente di Exmouth Point può essere fatta risalire all'11° secolo, quando era conosciuta come Lydwicnaesse, "il punto dei Bretoni".
