Il nome Bagnoli deriva da "balneoli", termine che indicava la presenza di zone d'acqua nel territorio. In epoca preromana questa parte della Pianura Padana era infatti un'immensa distesa d'acqua dalla quale emergevano solo i Colli Euganei. Anche in seguito alla comparsa delle terre non collinari l'acqua rimase un elemento presente e caratteristico di questa zona, fino alla completa bonifica del territorio.
