Località turistica posta sulle rive del Lago Maggiore, confina a nord con Laveno-Mombello, a est con Sangiano e Caravate, a sud-est con Besozzo, a sud con Monvalle, ad ovest e a sud-ovest col Lago Maggiore e quindi con il Piemonte e la Provincia del Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.
Sulla sponda del Lago Maggiore si trova l'Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso, simbolo della città e dello stemma comunale leggiunese.
