La città di Arese è situata a nord ovest di Milano, a circa 15 chilometri dal centro del capoluogo. Il suo territorio è approssimativamente descrivibile come un triangolo che ha come lati la Strada statale 233 Varesina a est, l'Autostrada dei Laghi a ovest e il canale Villoresi a nord.
La conformazione geologica del territorio comprende una parte a base fangosa con presenza di detriti sassosi, sabbia e ghiaia ed una parte a base argillosa ricca di ferro.
