San Giovanni in Persiceto è un comune italiano di 27 811 abitanti della città metropolitana di Bologna in Emilia-Romagna. Dal gennaio 2012 è sede amministrativa dell'Unione dei comuni Terre d'acqua.
Il toponimo è attestato a metà dell'VIII secolo come Persisido e nel 936 come Sancti Iohannis in Persiceta. La prima parte del nome deriva dal culto di San Giovanni Battista, mentre la seconda indica un pescheto, ovvero un frutteto con alberi di pesco. Dal 1912 al 1927 il comune è stato denominato semplicemente Persiceto per spirito anticlericale.
