W7-8: QUATTRO FONTANE

Questo incrocio di strade perfettamente dritte si trova in una posizione strategica. All'estremità di tre di esse si può vedere un obelisco, ovvero quello al Quirinale (W7-1), l'obelisco in cima alla Scalinata di Spagna (W6-12) e quello sul retro di Santa Maria Maggiore (W7-13). Il quarto braccio conduce perpendicolare alla Porta Pia.
Due delle quattro fontane angolari furono pagate dalla famiglia Mattei che possedeva anche qui un po' di terreno. Erano stati in precedenza anche mecenati per la Fontana delle Tartarughe (W2-4) che si trova davanti alla loro abitazione in Piazza Mattei.
