Si trova a nord di Makkum e Cornwerd, a nord-ovest di Wons e Witmarsum e a sud-ovest di Pingjum. Il centro del villaggio si trova leggermente a nord del punto in cui la Afsluitdijk raggiunge la costa frisone e lungo il Mare di Wadden. Nel 2021 il villaggio contava 145 abitanti. Sotto il villaggio rientrano le frazioni di Ottenburen, Gooium e le due piccole aree alla Ald Mar che a volte vengono considerate parte della frazione di Bootland. Le due piccole aree si sono formate nella prima metà del ventesimo secolo lungo il prolungamento di Zurich e sono in realtà semplicemente parte del villaggio, ma a causa della costruzione della N31 si sono un po' separate.
