Una visita al Museo delle Catacombe Romane è un'esperienza affascinante e indimenticabile. Vagando per i corridoi sotterranei, i visitatori viaggiano indietro nel tempo, all'antica Roma del III e IV secolo.
Scendi verso le tombe dei comuni cittadini romani e verso le splendide e colorate camere funerarie dei romani illustri. Il museo è stato fondato nel 1910 da Jan Diepen, figlio di un ricco industriale tessile, in collaborazione con il famoso architetto Pierre Cuypers.
Le cripte splendidamente decorate (circa 25 metri sotto la superficie terrestre) sono di straordinaria bellezza. I dipinti rivelano storie particolari, antichi rituali e scene sorprendenti della vita quotidiana.
