La Mokkebank è un'area naturale di 66 ettari nel IJsselmeer vicino a Gaasterland. Questa piana sabbiosa, coperta da canne, rovi e cespugli, è separata da Gaasterland da un canale vegetato. Attorno alla Mokkebank si trova una riserva per uccelli acquatici di 1.456 ettari.
La piana si è formata, così come le aree della costa occidentale, a causa della chiusura della Zuiderzee. Questo ha fatto emergere una piana sabbiosa a est di Laaksum. La piana ha attirato molti gabbiani. Quando il canale tra la terraferma si è insabbiato, le isolette e le pianure si sono collegate alla terraferma.
