Il Palazzo Reale, a volte chiamato anche Kungliga slottet , è la residenza ufficiale oltre che il più importante palazzo reale della Monarchia svedese . L'edificio è situato sull'isoletta di Stadsholmen, meglio nota come Gamla Stan , accanto al Riksdag, l'edificio che ospita il parlamento.
Fu realizzato dopo il 1697, a seguito di un rovinoso incendio che distrusse completamente la struttura originaria; il progetto attuale si deve a Nicodemus Tessin il Giovane, il quale fu notevolmente influenzato dai disegni di Gian Lorenzo Bernini per l'ampliamento del Louvre e della facciata di palazzo Barberini a Roma. La vasta residenza costituisce una delle più importanti testimonianze di architettura barocca della Svezia.
