De bekendste van de keizerskronen van het Heilige Roomse Rijk van de Duitse Natie is de zogenaamde kroon van keizer Karel de Grote, die in werkelijkheid uit 962 of zelfs de 11e eeuw stamt. Bronnen spreken elkaar daarin tegen. Wanneer de kroon uit 962 stamt dan is zij voor Otto de Grote gesmeed. De hoge met parels bezette kam is met zekerheid later aan de kroon toegevoegd.
